CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Softball team split a Region III and Mid-State Athletic Conference doubleheader with nationally ranked Onondaga Community College on Sunday. The Lakers took Game 1 4-3, but fell in Game 2 5-1.
The Lakers are 13-14 on the season and hold a 12-8 record in Region III. Finger Lakes will remain at home on Tuesday when they host Tompkins Cortland Community College. First pitch against the Panthers is at 3pm.
Chelsea Barlett led Finger Lakes with three hits in Game 1. Jennifer Marshall drove in three runs and tripled. Cassidy Bosch added a pair of hits for the Lakers. Jolynn Betty (5-8) got the complete game win for Finger Lakes.
Kelly Minnehan had an RBI single for Finger Lakes in the Game 2 loss.
Both teams scored in the first inning of Game 1, and Onondaga took a 2-1 lead in the second. Finger Lakes answered with a pair of runs in the third. Cassidy Bosch led the inning off with a walk and Chelsea Bartlett singled. Jennifer Marshall scored them both with a triple, making it 3-2 Lakers. The Lazers tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth and the game went to the bottom of the seventh tied. Daniele Ogrodowski reached on an error, Cassidy Bosch singled, and Ashley Leederman reached base to load the bases with one out. Chelsea Bartlett singled to score Ogrodowski and give Finger Lakes the 4-3 walkoff victory.
Onondaga took an early lead in Game 2, leading 4-0 after the first inning. The Lakers got on the board in the fourth. Abby Weaver got a single and that was followed by a walk by Daniele Ogrodowski. Weaver scored on a two out single by Kelly Minnehan to make it 4-1. That was the only scoring for Finger Lakes, however, as the Lazers went on to win 5-1.
