FLCC Drops Home Season Opening Doubleheader to No. 3 Herkimer County

CANANDAIGUA -- The Lady Lakers, in a pair of home contests with Herkimer County CC on Saturday, fell on their own field to the No. 3 Lady Generals by the scores of 11-1 and 13-0. Herkimer's bats were clicking on all cylinders in the weekend matchup.

In game one, Finger Lakes CC would strike first thanks to an Elaina Evinsky RBI single. Rachel Mertens would lead the opener of the doubleheader off by reaching base on a single. After a Courtney Edger sacrifice bunt was put down, Mertens made her way to second. A Samantha German single would then move the shortstop/pitcher to third. It was after German's at bat is when Evinsky would bring home Mertens for the 1-0 lead.

After drawing the game's first lead, the Lady Lakers had to deal with a ferocious offense in the visiting Lady Generals. Herkimer would find its hitting groove as it recorded 13 hits in the six-inning affair. The Lady Generals, after surrendering the first run of the game, would score 11 unanswered runs to secure itself an 11-1 victory.

Game two would produce continued success for the visiting Lady Generals. They would continue to swing the bat well as a team as they would go on to sweep the Lady Lakers by taking the nightcap 13-0.

In game one, the Lady Lakers were led offensively by German's 2 for 3 effort. To go along with her first inning single, the sophomore added a sixth inning double. Mertens and Evinsky each finished the game with one hit apiece. Tamara Robertson registered Finger Lakes remaining hit.

In the finale of the twinville, the Lady Lakers Edger led the hosts with two hits. Adding one hit apiece were Mertens, Robertson, and Kirsty Selapack.
