Men's Track Places 4th at Regional Championships


The Finger Lakes Community College men's track and field team participated in the NJCAA Division III Regional Championships at SUNY Delhi on Saturday, April 30th. The Men's team finished in 4th place overall.   

The men's 4x800 meter relay consisting of Corey Hurley, Lane Howard, Nate Murad and Jerrett Laskett finished in 1st place in 8:50.55 making them the Regional Champions!  In the men's 4x400 and 4x100 meter relays, Adam Thorman, Lane Howard, Nate Murad and Jerrett Laskett took 3rd and 4th place respectively in 3:35.92 and a season best 45.31.  Currently they are listed as the 7th, 12th and 14th fastest relay teams respectively, heading to Nationals next weekend.  "It should be interesting to see how they fare against the best of Division III!" - Head Coach Scott Williams

In the 400 hurdles, Jerrett Laskett finished in first place with a new school record in :55.81 seconds.  This performance puts Jerrett in 2nd place in the national rankings in all of NJCAA Division III.   Adam Thorman, in his first 3K Steeplechase run, qualified for Nationals in 4th  place in 12:26.82 and is currently ranked 15th nation-wide in Division III.  Mike Pulver ran his best 400 meter hurdles run this season and qualified for Nationals in a time of 1:04.74 for 3rd place overall. 

Team Captain Mike Newcomb finished in 2nd place in the discus throwing 34.33 meters.   Koty Smith also took 2nd place in the 5K run in a time of 17:28.36 only 4 seconds off his personal best time.  Koty will run both the 5K and 10K next weekend at Nationals. Corey Hurley took 4th place in the 800 in a season best 2:08.84.  Jerrett Laskett finished in 2nd place in the 400 in a season best 50.79 which is less than a second off the school record. 

Team Captain Lane Howard and Nate Murad tied for 6th place in the 200 in identical times of 24.37 seconds.  In the 100 meter sprint, Nate Murad and Mike Jones finished in 6th and 8th place respectively in 12.25 and 12.57 respectively.  Adam Morrison and Colin Delgado finished in 5th and 6th place in the 1500 meter run in 5:11 and 5:24, both season bests.

In the high jump, Jerrett Laskett took 2nd with1.80 meters.  Ken Toepper and Mike Newcomb finished in 6th and 7th in the shot put in 8.99 and 8.57 meters respectively.  Patrick Smith-LaBomBard and Melvin Madera finished in 4th and 5th place in the javelin respectively with tosses of 33.65 and 32.83 meters.  Ken Toepper and Adam Morrison finished in 5th and 6th place in the hammer throw tossing 18.43 and 16.08 meters. 

The men travel to Westfield State College on Friday for the NJCAA National Division III Championships to be held on Saturday and Sunday May 7th and 8th.   Good luck Lakers!
