UTICA, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Track and Field team competed in Day 1 of the NJCAA Division III National Championships on Thursday at Mohawk Valley Community College.
The day was highlighted by Luke Shively. The freshman set a new Finger Lakes record in the pole vault with a mark of 13' 7" (4.13 meters). Shively finished second in the country in the pole vault and earned NJCAA All-American. The FLCC 4x800 meter relay also medalled on Thursday. The team of Chuck Collins, Corey Hurley, Devan Halton, and Lane Howard set a new school record with a time of 8:23.18, finishing 6th in the country. Jordan Rizzieri also started the multi-day decathlon with the 100 meter dash, long jump and shot put and currently sits a few places out of making the podium.
Day 2 of the Championships continues on Friday. Highlighting the day will be defended NJCAA Runner-up Sean Pebbles in the javelin and Chuck Collins running the 10K. Collins set the best time of any NJCAA runner in that race so far this season.
