Collins Wins National Championship

UTICA, NY -- Chuck Collins won the 10,000 meters race on Day 2 of the NJCAA Division III National Championships. He is the first Laker to become National Champion in that race.

Collins was the top seeded runner going into Friday's race. He crossed the finish line with a time of 33:42.82. Collins defeated runner-up Juan Barajas of Harper College by 12 seconds. Barajas won the 2014 NJCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship ran at Finger Lakes Community College. Also on Friday, the decathlon concluded with Jordan Rizzieri finishing seventh. His point total of 3968 sets a new FLCC record. Rizzieri's best individual event in the decathlon was the javelin throw, in which he finished 4th.

Many field events were run on Friday as well as prelims for various races. In the long jump, Zach Simmons finished eleventh with a jump of 6.10 meters. Simmons also finished 11th in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.83 meters. Sean Pebbles finished sixth in the javelin with a seasons-best throw of 48.13 meters. Rizzieri finished 13th in the javelin. Among the prelims, the Lakers 4x400 meter relay team was the only runners to qualify for the championship races on Saturday.

The final day of the NJCAA Division III National Championships will be Saturday. Highlighting the day will be the Lakers relay team as well as Collins running the in the 5,000 meters.
