DELHI, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Track and Field team competed in the Region III Championships at SUNY Delhi this past weekend.
The 4x800 meter relay team consisting of Chuck Collins, Corey Hurley, Devan Halton and Lane Howard smashed the school record by over 14 seconds in a Nationals qualifying time of 8:30.50 taking 2nd place. In the Javelin Toss, Sean Pebbles and Jordan Rizzieri went 1-2, each throwing season bests of 44.78 and 43.73 meters. Pebbles and Rizzieri finished in the same order last season as well. In the 1500 meter run, Chuck Collins broke the school record by 9 seconds running a personal best time of 4:12.19. In addition, Chuck ran a solid time of 16:25.64 in the 5K run as well to win first place. Overall on the weekend, Chuck won the Region III Championship in the 1500, 5K and 10K runs and is ranked 3rd, 2nd and 1st in the NJCAA rankings, respectively. In the 110 meter high hurdles, Jeremia Solecki and Bill Hartman each ran personal best times of 17.84 and 19.04 respectively placing 6th and 8th. In the 400 meter high hurdles, Tyler Viele and Jeremia Solecki each ran well in 1:00.34 and 1:00.64 placing 6th and 7th respectively. In the High Jump, Zach Simmons qualified for Nationals with a jump of 1.83 meters (6') placing 5th as well as a season best 6.16 meters in the Long Jump. Mike Newcomb participated in the Javelin, Shot Put and Discus Throw tossing 24.84 meters, 9.02 meters and 27.10 meters respectively. In the 800 meter run, Corey Hurley and Josh Thorp finished in 3rd and 6th place clocking a time of 2:09.74 and 2:22.94 respectively. In the 100 meter dash, Greg DeSilva ran a season best time of 11.94, just missing the finals. Lane Howard and Adam Thorman each ran very well in 12.14 and 12.34 to place 14th and 15th. In the 200 meter sprint, Greg DeSilva, Lane Howard and Adam Thorman finished in 24.34 (season best), 25.34 and 25.44 respectively in 12th, 13th and 14th place. In the 4x100 meter relay, Adam Thorman, Greg DeSilva, Jeremia Solecki and Lane Howard finished in a season best 45.40. In the final event of the day, the 4x400 meter relay consisting of Jeremia Solecki, Corey Hurley, Tyler Viele and Lane Howard, ran a season best in 3:38.14 finishing in 4th place.
Multiple Lakers, including relay teams, will be competing at the NJCAA Division III National Championships this weekend. The meet will be hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College.
