CANADAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Men’s Soccer team walked away with a home victory against the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves on Wednesday. The Lakers won 12-1.
The Lakers played a very high scoring game against the Thunderwolves. In the first half, the Lakers scored 5 goals. The first goal of the game was scored by Gabriel Mendoza. Derek McArthur found Mendoza waiting in the front of the net and it was a quick one touch goal. The second goal was scored by Noah Fisher. McArthur crossed the ball in front of the net and Fisher scored the goal off of a header. The third FLCC goal was scored by Rodney Delyser and assisted by Dhameer Balkum. McArthur scored the next goal unassisted. He took a hard shot and it made its way past the Thunderwolve’s goalie. The fourth goal of the game was scored by Niagara County. George Ssozi put one by Brayden Kane for the Thunderwolve’s only goal of the game. Ssozi scored unassisted. The final goal of the half was scored by Fisher. He attempted a long kick from behind the midfield line, and it was hard enough that it found the back of the net. FLCC dominated the first half.
The second half was filled with more Lakers’ goals. The first goal of the half was scored by Felipe Gonzalez. His goal came off a corner kick from Raquan Hinds who put the ball at the perfect height so Gonzalez could head it in. A minute later, Fisher found the back of the net unassisted again. Fisher took a foul kick and opted to take a shot. Next, Hinds scored in front of the goal from Gonzalez. About 10 more minutes into the half, Samuel Johnson found an open Jordan Gardner who scored his first goal of the season. Josue Fontanez took an opportunity to score after he received a throw in. He was successful and scored for the 10th Laker goal. Soon after, Gonzalez found the back of the net again scoring unassisted. Finally, Will Gibson scored his first goal of the season from a kick up from Fisher. This was a needed win for the Lakers after coming off of a tough loss from the previous game against Corning Community College.
Game leaders for the Lakers were Fisher with 3 goals, and 1 assist, Gonzalez with 2 goals, and 1 assist, and Kane with 4 saves.
The Lakers play next at home on Saturday, October 7th. They will play Tompkins Cortland Community College at 3:00pm.
