The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Soccer team defeated Corning Community College yesterday by a score of 2-1. With this win, The Lakers have snapped their 11 game losing streak and improve to 2-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.
Both teams came out hungry for possession at the start of th contest. Finger Lakes created a few opportunities early but were unable to capitalize. Finally, with 22 minutes remaining in the first half, Abdu Nyangos would score for the Lakers. Finger Lakes would continue to press the Red Barons defense and would capitalize once more before the half. The goal came from Raquan Hinds assisted by Eric Roetzer with 10 minutes remaining in the 1st. The Lakers would go into the half leading 2-0.
Corning Came out hard the second half pressuring Finger Lakes. After a few missed opportunities Corning would close the gap and capitalize 15 minutes in with a goal over the Finger Lakes defense. Late in the 2nd, Corning was looking to tie the game up. The Red Barons pressured the Lakers defense hard taking a total of 9 shots. The Lakers would hold off the Red Barons attack for the remainder of the game and come out on top. Finger Lakes was able to pull out an edge of your seat win over Corning by a final score of 2-1.
The Lakers will stay at home this week as they face Niagara Community College Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 5pm.
