JAMESTOWN, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team defeated Jamestown Community College on Wednesday by the score of 2-1 to earn their first win of the season. The two teams played to a 0-0 draw earlier in the season at Finger Lakes. The Lakers are now 1-7-3 on the season and 1-2 in Region III West play.
Freshmen were the key to the Finger Lakes victory. Freshman forward Corey Nash got the Lakers on the board in the 29th minute. His goal was his second in as many games for the Lakers. Finger Lakes pushed the lead to 2-0 towards the end of the first half. The Australian Nathan Paull found the back of the net in the 40th minute for what would eventually be the game-winning goal. The Jayhawks would score in the 55th minute, but freshman goalie Barizaa Worwor would hold them there and secure the victory for the Lakers.
Finger Lakes will continue on the road this Saturday as they take on the Cayuga Spartans. The match-up with the Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent is scheduled to kickoff at 3pm.
