Lakers Fall To Union County

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lacrosse team lost their closest game of the season on Sunday against the Union County College Owls. They lost 14-8.

It was one of the best starts of a game the Lakers have had so far. The Owls started off the scoring in the first quarter. Myles Ackerson scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Jamal Almmari. The Lakers answered back only two minutes later. Josh Zugnoni scored his first of the game unassisted. Two minutes later, Ackerson scored another one for the Owls, this time unassisted. The Lakers wanted to make it clear they weren't giving up, and Andrew Baker ripped a goal assisted by Ryan MacDonnell. After a Laker penalty, Thomas Hartnett scored a man-up goal assisted by Ackerson. Then, with 21 seconds left in the quarter, Ackerson scored again.

Two minutes into the second quarter, Ackerson scored unassisted. Soon after, Baker scored a man-up goal, again assisted by MacDonnell. The Lakers were keeping themselves in it. Ackerson scored another goal, this time being man-down. He was assisted by Stephen Gillespie. Baker answered back again, scoring unassisted and man-down. Ackerson stayed on fire and scored again soon after unassisted. For the final goal of the half, it was by another Owl, Dale Desantis, assisted by Jamal Almmari.

After half time, the Lakers came out scoring the first goal of the second half. This time, it was Colin Simmons scoring man-up, unassisted. Then Brandon Haynes scored unassisted for the Owls. With 32 seconds left in the third quarter, Jarrett Luoma scored the final goal of the quarter.

In the final quarter of the game, Zugnoni scored another one unassisted, and this time man-up. Later, Gillespie scored again unassisted. Baker, the answer back king, scored soon after unassisted. Gillespie scored two more times for the Owls, and Desantis scored once. Then, with two minutes and 42 seconds left, Alex Snell scored a final man-up goal assisted by MacDonnell.

Zugnoni went 11 for 25 in face-offs.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Baker with four goals, Zugnoni with two goals, and six ground balls, MacDonnell with three assists, and four ground balls, and goalie, Kristian Lapp with nine saves.

The Lakers will play again on Tuesday, April 10th. They will travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College where they will play at 4:00pm.
