Lakers Fall in Season Opener

SYRACUSE, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Lacrosse team lost their season opening game on Monday, falling to #1 ranked Onondaga Community College 33-1.

The Lakers (0-1, 0-1 Region III, 0-1 MSAC) got their lone goal from freshman Alex Stull. He was assisted by Corey Grace. Matt Spoor made 24 saves in net for Finger Lakes.

Onondaga (3-0, 2-0 Region III, 1-0 MSAC) was led by Joseph Ondrako with four goals. A trio of Lazers also added hat tricks in the game.

Spoor turned away the opening shot of the game by Onondaga. The Lakers would take the ball and possession. Finger Lakes got four early chances at goal. Holden McDonald made three saves for Onondaga, however, and the fourth shot went wide. Onondaga would find the back of the net twice for a 2-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. Finger Lakes would respond. Nick Andrews forced a Lazer turnover and the ground ball was recovered by Jesse Lewis. Corey Grace would end up with the ball and he found Alex Stull for the Lakers goal, making it 2-1 with 3:53 left in the first half. Onondaga answered with a goal at the buzzer though and led 3-1 after the first period.

The rest of the game would be all Lazers. They outscored Finger Lakes 30-0 and limited the Lakers to just six shots over the final 45 minutes of play on their way to the 33-1 victory.

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Pittsford, NY to take on the JV Lacrosse team from St. John Fisher College.
