BRENTWOOD, NY. – The Lakers, in their latest contest, faced the nation's fifth ranked team in the Suffolk County CC Sharks on Sunday. Suffolk, riding a four-game win streak heading into the weekend affair, entered the game having scored double-digit goals in each of its four wins. On Sunday, it would extend both its win steak and its double-digit scoring streak to five games as it would put up its greatest goal total of the season to take down Finger Lakes. The Lakers, on a day where they were coming off of a win the previous afternoon, fell to the Sharks 26-3.
Suffolk (5-0) jumped out to an 8-0 lead 15 minutes into the 60-minute matchup. The Sharks, after opening up an 8-0 first quarter lead, would proceed to score 6 goals and 9 goals in the second and third quarters respectively all while holding the Lakers (2-5) to no scores. Finger Lakes would find the scoreboard in the remaining quarter of the game. The Lakers would score each of their three goals in the fourth.
Finger Lakes, in a losing effort, received a pair of goals from Robert Pelkey. One of his helpers was assisted by midfielder Albert Thompson while the other went unassisted. Registering the Lakers remaining marker was Jack Timerson. With his goal, the standout sophomore has now registered one or more goals in Finger Lakes first seven contests this season.
The Lakers will now turn their attention to Cayuga CC in their next contest, which is scheduled to take place this Wednesday. The game, which was originally set to take place on the Lakers campus beginning at 4 pm, has been moved. It will now take place at Corcoran High School in Syracuse, NY, and will begin at 6:15 p.m.
