Canandaigua, NY -- The Finger Lakes Community College basketball team dropped their home conference matchup to Onondaga Community College on Wednesday, January 25. The Lakers, now 12-6, were defeated by the Lazers 89-87 with an overtime buzzer beater.
Wednesday's contest started out evenly matched between the Lakers and Lazers. Through the first ten minutes of the game, both teams were tied at 15 points apiece. However, the Lazers would go on a 24-14 point run to take the lead 39-39 at the half.
The Lakers closed the gap early in the second half and, with good teamwork, came back to within three points of the Lazers with just seven seconds remaining. With time running down, Jonathan Range would hit a three pointer in the final seconds to tie the game 75-75 and sent it to overtime.
The Lakers were outscored 7-2 in the first four minutes of overtime, but determination allowed them to battle back to within two with 21 seconds remaining. Jonathan Range hit a jumper to tie the game 87 all with five seconds remaining. However, the Lazers hit a a last second buzzer beater to claim victory over the Lakers with a score of 89-87.
Shabazz Mosley led the Lakers in Wednesday's contest with 31 points and 14 rebounds. Jonathan Range finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jay Scarbrough added 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
The Lakers will return to the court on Saturday, January 28 when they host the Panthers from Tompkins Cortland Community College in a Mid-Sate Athletic Conference contest. Tipoff is set for 1pm on Putt Moore Court.
