DRYDEN, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team defeated Corning Community College 79-48 on Friday night in the Mid-State Athletic Conference Semi-Finals. With the win, the Lakers advance to the finals Saturday afternoon against the host Tompkins Cortland CC Panthers.
The Lakers got out to a fast start on Friday. After trading baskets early to start the game, Will Arberry would make a layup with 14 minutes remaining in the half to give Finger Lakes a 12-9 lead. That basket would spark a 34-4 run to end the half for the Lakers. The Lakers would steal the ball from the Red Barons eight times during that run and would carry a 44-13 lead into the break.
Brandon Bullock led the way for Finger Lakes with 11 points at the half. Will Arberry and Dylan Verkey each added 10 points for the Lakers. As a team, Finger Lakes shot 62.5% from the field in the first half.
The second half would start much how the first ended. The Lakers opened the half with an 11-4 run to widen the margin even more. With 13 minutes to play, Finger Lakes held its largest lead following a Will Arberry jumper making it 61-20. The Lakers would continue on to a 79-48 lead.
Will Arberry finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for Finger Lakes. Brandon Bullock added 16 points and seven rebounds. Martin Young, making his second consecutive start, had 14 points and Dylan Verkey added 10 for the Lakers. Luke Logsdon led the Lakers reserves with 12 points off of the bench. Finger Lakes finished the game shooting 51.7% from the field and holding Corning to 32.3%.
The Championship Game for the Mid-State Athletic Conference will take place on Saturday, February 22. The Lakers will face the host Tompkins Cortland Community College and the game is set for 1pm.
