CORNING, NY -- The Finger Lakes Men's Basketball team lost to Corning Community College 86-73 in a Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday. The Lakers are now 16-9 overall on the season and 6-4 in the conference.
Finger Lakes came out shooting on Saturday scoring and early 10 points in the opening two minutes. Brandon Bullock would have a pair of baskets underneath and Matt Scharr would drain a pair of threes for the Lakers. Corning would answer the Lakers however and take the lead. Will Arberry would find Martin Young down low for a basket making it 14-13 Red Barons with 14 minutes to play in the first. The Corning lead would grow to as many as five. Finger Lakes would come back to tie the game at 23-23 following a Bullock three point play. A minute later, Bullock would give Finger Lakes the lead on a put back basket. He had three offensive rebounds in the half. Corning would take the lead right back and extend their advantage to 41-34 going into halftime.
Brandon Bullock led the Lakers in the first half with 15 points and seven rebounds. Matt Scharr added eight points in the half. Will Arberry had four points and three rebounds for the Lakers.
The Lakers were able to come out and narrow the lead, getting it down to a five point game, 47-42, five minutes into the half. Corning would answer and grow the lead back to double-digits just four minutes later. Dylan Verkey and Matt Scharr both made a threes in to keep the Lakers in the game, but Corning kept attacking. The Red Barons went on to win the game 86-73.
Bullock finished the game with 24 points for Finger Lakes. Bullock also added 12 rebounds. Dylan Verkey, Matt Scharr, and Martin Young each finished with 11 points. Will Arberry added nine points and six rebounds.
The Lakers will take on Cayuga this upcoming Wednesday. The Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup against the Spartans will be at Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
