SYRACUSE, NY -- The Finger Lakes Community College Baseball team split a doubleheader with Onondaga Community College on Saturday. The Lakers took Game 1 by the score of 1-0, but fell in Game 2 20-3. Onondaga is currently ranked 5th in the NJCAA. Finger Lakes is now 15-17 on the season and 9-9 in Region III play.
Finger Lakes would get on the board early in Game 1. With one out, Danny D'Eletto and Max Franzone would walk. Following a Ryan Juergens flyout, Cameron Heasley and Matt Ashley walked as well. Ashley's walk forced in a run giving Finger Lakes the 1-0 lead. The one run would be all starting pitcher Brandon Anderson would need. He scattered only five hits and struck out five in the complete game shutout. Anderson would retire the final seven batters he faced to secure the 1-0 win.
Anderson earned his second win on the season for Finger Lakes. It was his second career shutout and the five strikeouts was a season-hihg for the sophomore. Max Franzone recorded the Lakers sole hit in the third inning and drew a pair of walks.
Onondaga jumped on the Lakers early in Game 2. They plated five runs in the first, seven in the second and eight in the third inning to take control of the game. Elliot Austin scored a run on a sacrifice fly and Michael LiPani had an RBI single for Finger Lakes in the 20-3 loss.
The Lakers will host Onondaga on Sunday in Canandaigua. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
