HAGERSTOWN, MD. – The Finger Lakes CC baseball team was swept by Hagerstown CC on the road on Wednesday 10-0 and 12-2. The Lakers are now 1-5 on the young season; however four of their losses are to Division 1 opponents, including Hagerstown on Wednesday.
In game one, Hagerstown jumped out early with 8 runs in the first two innings. The early deficit was too much for the Lakers to overcome. Troy Loparco chipped in with a hit for Finger Lakes. Freshman Kevin Close took the loss in his first collegiate start. Danny Baker came out of the bullpen and struck out two over the final three innings of the game.
The fortunes in game two were not much better for the Lakers. Alan Rombkowski threw well in his first start of his career. He pitched into the fifth inning, striking out three and allowing just 4 earned runs. Offensively for Finger Lakes, Loparco had a single, pair of stolen bases, and a run scored. Aaron Freida had a single and a run scored and Joey Simmons had a single and an RBI.
The Lakers are back on the field today as they are scheduled to take on CCBC Dundalk in an afternoon doubleheader. First pitch is 1:30 pm.
