CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (14-24) swept a home doubleheader this afternoon with the Alfred State College Pioneers (6-31), 4-2 (game one ) and 10-4 (game two). The Lakers earned a pair of victories behind solid pitching and timely hitting. With the wins, Finger Lakes is now in the midst of a 4-game win streak.
Game One Summary – Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Lakers scored 3 unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead heading into the sixth. Needless to say, Finger Lakes never looked back after the sixth as starting pitcher David Bradshaw (Canandaigua, NY) finished what was a strong outing on the mound by going the distance to notch the victory.
Lakers Game One Individual Highlights - Bradshaw struck out 5 Pioneers in the win. He allowed just 3 walks on 6 hits and 2 earned runs.
Corey Cowen (West Edmeston, NY) led Finger Lakes in the hitting department with his 2-hit (2 for 3) effort. He also added one run scored.
Eddie Tagliareni (Mexico, NY) went 1 for 2 from the plate with 2 runs scored for the Lakers.
Branden Rhodes (Victor, NY) scored Finger Lakes other run. He finished the game 1 for 2 from the dish.
Game Two Summary – Alfred State established a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but squandered 10 runs to the Lakers the rest of the game as Finger Lakes earned the victory behind a strong all around performance out of its pitching staff and lineup. Lakers starting pitcher Nick French (Lansing, NY) got the win on the hill while Dan Baker (Spencerport, NY) recorded a 2-inning save. Finger Lakes collected 11 hits in the 10-run affair.
Lakers Game Two Individual Highlights – Cowen again led the team in hitting for the second consecutive game. He delivered 4 hits and a perfect game from the plate in the nightcap by going 4 for 4. He also produced 4 RBI's and stole 4 bases.
Tagliareni gathered 3 hits (3 for 4) from the dish with 3 runs scored. He also swiped 4 steals on the base paths.
French's pitching line consisted of 3 strikeouts and no walks on 9 hits in 5 innings worth of work. All 4 Alfred State runs were earned.
Baker's 2-inning save consisted of allowing just 1 walk on 3 hits.
