Baseball – Lakers Split Road Doubleheader With Broome

BINGHAMTON, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (10-22) split a road doubleheader with the Broome Community College Hornets (10-20) this afternoon. Both games resulted in shutouts with the Hornets taking the opener, 3-0. The Lakers rebounded in the nightcap by conquering the win, 2-0.

Game One: Finger Lakes received one hit each from Justin Stowell (Horseheads, NY), Dylan Catlin (Brewerton, NY), Corey Cowen (West Edmeston, NY), and Chris Fazio (Staten Island, NY). Stowell, Catlin, and Fazio's hits were all singles. Cowen's hit was for extra bases (double).

Lakers starting pitcher Billy Kosachook (Ontario, NY) hurled 5 1/3 innings on the mound in the losing effort. He finished the game with a final line of – one strikeout, five walks, five hits allowed, and three earned runs.

Dakota Stackhouse (Warsaw, NY) pitched the other 2/3 of an inning for Finger Lakes. He finished the game with one strikeout and allowed no walks or hits.

Game Two: Lakers starting pitcher Stephen Lewis (Pittsford, NY) took a no-hit bid heading into the top of the sixth inning before losing it to a lead off single. Lewis launched a gem of an outing by pitching a complete game shutout with five strikeouts. He allowed just two hits in the win.

Cowen highlighted Finger Lakes in the hitting department with his two-hit (both singles) effort. He also added one run scored.

Stowell, Catlin, Dominick Beniamino (Geneva, NY), and Eddie Tagliareni (Mexico, NY) each added one hit apiece for the Lakers. Stowell, Catlin, and Beniamino's hits were all singles. Tagliareni's was good for extra bases (double). Stowell and Catlin added one RBI apiece to go along with their hits. Along with his hit, Beniamino (Geneva, NY) scored Finger Lakes other run.

Upcoming Games: The Lakers will return home tomorrow (4/22) to take on Broome in an afternoon doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 1:00 pm.
