SYRACUSE, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (8-20) dropped a pair of games this afternoon in a road doubleheader to conference foes (#7 nationally ranked*) Onondaga Community College (Lazers) by scores of 10-0 (game one) and 4-3 (game two). With the losses, the Lakers dropped back-to-back doubleheaders to the Lazers this weekend. Finger Lakes fell to Onondaga at home on Saturday, 17-0 (game one) and 3-0 (game two).
Game One: In a losing effort, the Lakers received one hit each from Justin Stowell (Horseheads, NY), Eddie Tagliareni (Mexico, NY), Branden Rhodes (Victor, NY), Corey Cowen (West Edmeston, NY), and Chris Fazio (Staten Island, NY). Stowell's hit (a double) was the only extra-base hit recorded by any of Finger Lakes players.
Game Two: The Lakers battled the Lazers all game long behind a solid pitching effort out of sophomore starter Nick French (Lansing, NY). French went the distance on the hill, finishing the game with one strikeout and no walks. All four runs allowed by French were earned. Onondaga finished the game with twelve hits. Along with a quality start out of French, Finger Lakes pounded out eight hits in the loss. Tagliareni tallied three of the Lakers eight hits. All three of his hits were singles. Tagliareni also scored one run and produced an RBI. Dakota Stackhouse (Warsaw, NY) contributed a pair of hits (both singles) for Finger Lakes. Cowen, Hector Mitaynes (Rochester, NY), and Corey Galletta (Oswego, NY) each added one hit apiece for the Lakers. Cowen's hit was good for three bases. He also scored and drove in one run.
Upcoming Games: Finger Lakes will return to the diamond on Tuesday (4/17) when they travel to Genesee Community College for an afternoon road doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is slated to be thrown at 2:00 pm.
