WATERTOWN, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (3-13, 0-2 MSAC) dropped a road doubleheader this afternoon against conference foes Jefferson Community College (Cannoneers) by scores of 10-0 (game one) and 7-6 (game two). The games marked the official start of conference play for the Lakers.
Finger Lakes couldn't match the intensity and hitting ability that the Cannoneers supplied in game one, but rebounded with a great offensive attack of their own in the finale of the doubleheader. On top of their hitting, Jefferson's pitching staff was a key factor in the game one shutout. Game two consisted of similar play out of both teams. The Lakers and Cannoneers both stood neck and neck offensively throughout the game.
In a losing effort in game one, Chris Fazio (Staten Island, NY) paced Finger Lakes with a hit (single) and a stolen base.
In the game two loss, the Lakers were led by Adam Szczupakowski's (Spencerport, NY) 2-hit, 2-RBI effort. Corey Cowen (West Edmeston, NY) also contributed two hits to the Lakers offense. Dylan Catlin (Brewerton, NY) added a pair of RBI's for Finger Lakes.
The Lakers will now travel to Corning Community College on Saturday (4/7) for an afternoon doubleheader. Game one is squared to start at 1:00 pm.
