Baseball – Lakers Split Doubleheader Against Herkimer

Germantown, MD. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (1-6, 0-0 MSAC) battled Herkimer County Community College this afternoon in a doubleheader held in Germantown, Maryland (neutral site). The Lakers took game one by a score of 8-7, but fell in game two, 12-7.

Trailing 7-6 in the top of seventh inning of game one, Finger Lakes crafted a late game comeback thanks to a Justin Stowell (first baseman, sophomore, Horseheads, NY) 2-run single. Stowell, who registered a 3-hit, 5-RBI game, solidified the 8-7 win for the Lakers with his clutch two out hit.

Finger Lakes received an ample amount of offense today out of its lineup. Joining Stowell in the 3-hit department were fellow teammates, freshmen Eddie Tagliareni (shortstop, Mexico, NY) and Chris Fazio (first baseman, Staten Island, NY).

The Lakers bullpen did an exceptional job of closing out the win. Freshman Dan Baker (Spencerport, NY) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the victory. Sophomore Sawyer Korb (Hornell, NY) picked up the save for Finger Lakes.

The Lakers dropped game two to Herkimer in the nightcap, 12-7. In a losing effort, Fazio again put up another solid offensive game by leading Finger Lakes with 3 hits. Tagliareni and freshman second baseman Corey Galletta (Oswego, NY) each added 2 hits apiece for the Lakers.

Finger Lakes will return to action on Tuesday (3/27) for a doubleheader at home against Monroe Community College. Game one is slated to start at 1:00 pm. Game two is expected to get underway at 3:00 pm.
